Smart TV Installation

The term Smart TV has come about from when the first software driven touch screen Smart Phones arrived.

Because the TV’s are flat and run an android operating system, the term crossed over to the new TV’s.

What is a smart TV?

It is a flat screen TV, that has an android operating system that runs virtually the same apps as your smart phone.

The main problem is the interface or how the user interacts with the TV.

It is not a touch screen like your phone, and that has been a bit of a problem is you cannot quickly type in anything, you have to select each letter from a keyboard layout on the screen.

They have tried to incorporate a keyboard on the back of the remote controls with limited success.

Now a lot of the manufacturers are introducing voice commands to help with the interaction.

Smart TV Configuration

To configure a new Smart TV all you have to do is connect the necessary cables, and other devices, then power  on the TV, and follow the onscreen prompts. This however is easier said than done. Some of the onscreen pages you have to get through, can be a bit ambiguous and usually you can skip past them, but some you have to tick all the boxes before you are allowed to continue.

Eventually you will get a screen to setup the wi-fi and any apps that you require, you will need a subscription, even the free apps, like SBS on demand and ABC Iview, you need a subscription before you can view any content.

How to upgrade your Flat Screen TV, without buying a new TV

If you have an older flat screen TV that still has an excellent picture, but it doesn’t have the latest apps.

The most cost effective way to have the latest apps on your older TV is to install a device that has the latest apps.

This will then update your older TV to the same as the latest TV.

The devices you can install to your TV include, the Optus Fetch Box, Sony Blue Ray DVD player with wifi,  or the Google Chrome Cast.

This will give you all the latest apps that are available without buying a new TV.
